(15) St. Luke's Episcopal Church
Built: 1902
Address: 501 Hammond Avenue (Up Minnekahta from Kidney Springs)
Fred Hein, the architect, designed St. Luke's, one of the few Gothic Revival styled buildings in Hot Springs. Most characteristic of the architectural mode is the pointed arch which is utilized on all the openings of the church. The church sits on a terrace above Minnekahata Avenue and a small square tower with crenellated roof serves as the entrance. A gable roof with latin cross finial appears on the west or front facade and a polygonal apse on the east. Stained glass windows, especially the one to the right of the entrance, display the artistry and craftsmanship of this decorative technique. Church members have restored the structure's interior which provides an excellent picture of late nineteenth century church design.
